Description

For sale is a Post WW2 British Army 1958 Pattern Northern Ireland Rifle Butt Pouch 1971 Dated.   The butt pouch is made from heavy duty green canvas. It has two metal hook on the back from attachment to the 58 Pattern webbing belt. It is stamped on the inside with the makers name and date – “M.W.&S 1971”.   These pouches where issued in Northern Ireland for use at checkpoints and static duties where soldiers had to stand over long periods ~ hence the “Northern Ireland issue butt pouch” name. The idea was that the pouch was worn on the right side of the body with the butt of the SLR rifle placed inside. The soldier was then able to hold the rifle by the pistol grip with the rifle at port leaving one hand free to check documents at checkpoints etc. but with the rifle in his right hand always ready for immediate use.   This is in good condition.    This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
